LETS BANG WITH "iBangle"

Every time when you jog, just for the sake of listening to music you have to put up with headphones and all the connecting wires dancing along. Wearable computing seems to be the latest fashion and though it is still away from making a formal appearance, it has begun creating waves already. Well this time, I hope you won’t see any such dancing wires because the engineers at Apple are trying out wearable devices, which also includes a curved glass iPod meant to be drawn on the wrist and put to use using Siri voice commands. A small group of Apple employees contribute in developing this wearable gadget by setting up the now-present-everywhere smartphone as a data-collecting centre.

This device what I am talking about popularly would be called as “iBangle” or “iPod-Bangle”.

The device can be used with any other locally available wrist-strap as a wrist-watch alternate. Talking about the technology embedded in it, the company has provided Bluetooth 4.0 support (popularly called as “Bluetooth Smart Ready”) as in its latest iPhone 4S.

Slash Gear reports that Apple is quietly testing and trying, what they're referring to as a curved glass iPod, which can be worn around one's wrist - more like a bangle. Interestingly, Siri will play a very important role in this one, since reports reveal that the curved iPod will be controlled, almost entirely by Siri.

It has become atrociously obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.

SWARM INTELLIGENCE

A long time ago, people discovered the variation of the interesting insect or animal behaviours in the nature. A flock of birds swings across the sky. A group of ants hunts for food. A school of fish swims, turns, flees together, etc. We call this kind of aggregate motion as SWARM behaviour. Recently biologists and computer scientists in the field of artificial life popularly called as Artificial Intelligence (AI) have studied how to model biological swarms to understand how such social animals interacts, achieve goals, and evolve to its immediate surroundings. Moreover, engineers are increasingly interested in this kind of swarm behaviour since the resulting swarm intelligence, which can be applied in optimization in telecommunication systems, power system, economical load dispatch, traffic patterns in transportation systems, and military applications.

In short Swarm Intelligence (SI) is an innovative, distributed intelligent pattern solving optimized technique that has been formerly commenced by the consistent activity of the physical laws or biological creatures which when reacting to their natural surroundings.

It has been also quoted that “SI is the emergent collective intelligence of group of simple agents.”

It basically a three step process of identification of analogies, understanding the problems and then engineer the solution in a very economical n efficient way with accuracy and speed. It has greater advantages as such as; system performance optimization, decentralization, distributed task allocation with effective monitoring etc.

Technology has already been implemented in various developed countries and also developing countries, equipped with most hi-tech and ground-breaking algorithms such as Simulated Annealing (SA), Ants Colony Optimization (ACO), Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA), Bacterial Foraging Algorithm (BFA) etc. As its an heuristic study, so still the best possible algorithms are been under research keeping exclusive factors like accuracy and speed in mind.

There is always an immortal link between nature and technology.

SMARTPHONE ON 4 WHEELS

Are you bored of using your iPhones and iPads, then just flip your eyes on the new concept what I call it as an "iCar". World famous Toyota Motor Corporation shown the Toyota Fun Vehicle interactive internet in short called as TOYOTA Fun Vii at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show, a concept vehicle that heralds a future where people, cars and society are linked.

Toyota Fun Vii is a 3 seater car with ultimate in personalization functions offer the ability to display messages or other information on the exterior and interior of the Toyota Fun Vii, with the same ease as downloading an application. The whole vehicle body can be used as a display area, with the body colour and display content changeable at will.

With hi-tech vehicle facilities, the interior can also function as a display area, with the interior freely modifiable to match one's mood of the moment. Content such as navigation information is blended seamlessly into the interior through the use of augmented reality technology. Furthermore, a vehicle's "navigation concierge" can provide the passengers with driving information and guidance through a vocal interface.

Operation of the Toyota Fun Vii is not limited to inside the vehicle itself, with a number of the vehicle's functions accessible remotely via a Smartphone or any other mobile communication device. For such sophisticated and extensive apps similar to a smartphone, its preferable to call it as SMARTPHONE ON FOUR WHEELS.

In addition to such features, the vehicle has a network update function which ensures the software versions for the vehicle's drive, control and multimedia system are always up-to-date. The Toyota Fun Vii is able to link with surrounding vehicles and infrastructure, allowing it to detect other potentially hazardous vehicles - such as vehicles in blind spots - in advance, or to connect with friends who are driving nearby.

The world has moved to smarter products whether it may be phone or be power, its time for us to make a smarter world with smart users.

SMART GRID

Amitabh Bacchan, Indian superstar, monitors his  power consumption on Google. Well he is not the brand ambassador of Google, neither is this some gizmo which he has purchased from some flashy store abroad.

Welcome to the world of smart grid, which is gradually moving into our living rooms across cities.

A combo of power distribution system, telecommunication devices and electrical gadgets which can predict, and respond to, usage patterns of both suppliers and consumers, smart grids have been taken up as full fledged projects or pilots in key states and metros. Such grids are seen as a solution to demand-supply mismatch in power by stressing on efficient use.  Such grids cut down on wastage and ensure dedicated service and lightning fast response times Each state in India is gradually heading this tech savvy path, which gradually reap a lot of positives in the long run.

RIL (Reliance Infrastructure Ltd.) , the power distribution company of the Anil Ambani group, offers users the capability of remotely monitoring their power consumption in the metros like Delhi and Mumbai. The smart grid installed has the capability to re-route electricity and specifically help you in cutting down on your heavy power bills by pointing out the power guzzlers.

Apart from Reliance, it is being adopted on a pilot basis by the West Bengal’s power distribution company, Bangalore’s distribution company as well as the state electricity distribution company in Karnataka. The first global smart grid was installed in Italy by Enel six years back. It delivers savings of Euros 500 million annually on a project cost of Euros 2.1 billion.

Smart Grid also serve as an early warning system predicting load on transformers and as the name goes will smartly redirect load and share the burden, rather than crashing and causing inconvenience.
The man power and wages for remote connects, disconnects and on demand reads will gradually reduce once this system is in place. This will reduce faults and increase up times and thus earnings. Welcome technology into your homes now.

Benjamin Franklin may have discovered electricity, but it was the man who invented the meter who made the money.

OXYGEN + HYDROGEN = LEAF

Mankind, the biggest victim to suffer in future from the deadliest problems that the world would ever suspect. Innovation and Research are the two main weapons that can uproot such problems.

Researchers have developed an ARTIFICIAL LEAF that can split water into Oxygen and Hydrogen in presence of sunlight, without needing wires or electricity. With this technological advancement, researchers have been able to create an artificial leaf.

This artificial leaf is actually a silicon solar cell with two different materials on either side. Once immersed in water and exposed to the sunlight, the leaf begins producing bubbles on either side of the surface. The video shows formation of Oxygen and Hydrogen bubbles on either side of this artificial leaf. Oxygen and Hydrogen produced by artificial leafs can be separated using pre-developed technology and then store them or use them for Electricity generation.

Researchers explains that this artificial leaf has been produced using material that’s available in abundance. It uses cobalt, silicon and nickel and works in regular water.

The development of Artificial Leaf opens many new avenues of investigation and development of reliable and cheaper sources of energy which will last for hundreds of years.

Check out this short video that shows the artificial leaf in action:-

SPACE HIGHWAYS

Have you ever seen the rope hanging from the space ? Or, better to say the rope which end disappears in the azure of the sky? Yes, you answer, but only in the cartoon about Aladdin.

However, believe me, the rope that hangs from the sky, is absolutely possible and that too without any conjuring tricks. I must be more precise and it is better to say that the rope is fastened on the surface of the Earth, consequently on the ground, and it falls into the sky.

A Space Elevator made of a carbon nano tubes composite ribbon anchored to an offshore sea platform would stretch to a small counterweight approximately 62,000 miles (100,000 km) into space. Mechanical lifters attached to the ribbon would then climb the ribbon, carrying cargo and humans into space, at a price of only about $100 to $400 per pound ($220 to $880 per kg).

Such technologies would lead to a terminology called "SPACE HIGHWAYS", which means high speed connectivity link between any celestial body and the space using a ultra high speed vehicle rolling over the it.

Looking energetically, the space elevator is the device that uses the Earth's rotational energy. Lifting up the load on greater distances is energetically very profitable. As the difference from the rocket, lifting up and landing can be done continuously. The price for drive would be law. That is the only way for massive lifting up of the load in the future. Other uses are possible, as for example the transmission of the electric power to the ground, improvement of the telecommunications etc. The space elevator would be ecologically very acceptable.

The greatest barrier in the technical sense and the most demanding task would be lifting up and setting up the first cable on the synchronous axis.

This is no more science fiction, this is what I called Technology.

VACTRAIN (VACUUM TUBE TRAIN)

Imagine a world where you can reach New York from London in just less than an hour. Yes the research has crossed the limit of speed and velocity to an ultimate level, which is just beyond your thinking.

That vision could become reality with Vac Train or so called Vacuum Tube Train, a futuristic train system capable of traveling 5,000 mph (6.5 times the speed of sound). To attain such unbelievable speeds, Vac Train builds on the revolutionary magnetic levitation system already used successfully in Asia and other locations by placing the entire train in a vacuum-sealed tube. Not only does such a system effectively eliminate friction and wind resistance (permitting extremely high speeds), but it does so in a manner which requires very little energy.

SIMPLY IMAGINE A TRAIN TRAVELLING FASTER THAN MACH 1 (AT SEA LEVEL) WITHOUT NOISE.

The train travelling at a speed up to 4000–5000 mph (6400–8000 km/h), faster than any commercial plane listing its title as the world fastest public transport. Theoretically, Vac train tunnels could be built deep enough to pass under oceans, thus permitting very rapid intercontinental travel. Vac trains could also use gravity to assist their acceleration. Also supersonic travel requires a large increase in propulsive power as one enters the near-sonic region. Again with reduced air pressure the speed of the onset of this effect will also increase, allowing faster speeds with lower energy requirements.

Due to booming blowout of the science and cutting edge technology, advancement in tunneling technology has been visualized to make such ultimate dream project come true. The "Trans Atlantic Tunnel" is one of such theoretical project has been undertaken for the building of such Vacuum based tunnel, which could facilitate such super-sonic speed transport system by next decade.

China is in the process of moving a scaled down version of Vac Train from conceptual design into reality. Southwest Jotting University in China has developed a prototype Maglev train system which would operate in low pressure underground tubes and would be capable of traveling up to 600 mph (3 times faster than current Maglev trains).

For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled.

OFFSHORE WIND ENERGY

Commercial-scale offshore wind facilities are currently in operation in shallow waters off the coasts of Europe, but further technology development is needed for use in the deeper waters of the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS).

Wind is air in motion. Since the earth’s surface is made of various land and water formations, it absorbs the sun’s radiation unevenly. Wind is produced by the uneven heating of the earth’s surface by the sun.

Onshore, wind energy has been utilized for power generation for more than two thousand years. In modern times, wind energy is mainly used to generate electricity, primarily through the use of wind turbines. Wind flows over the airfoil-shaped blades of wind turbines, causing lift (similar to the lifting force on airplane wings), causing the turbine blades to turn. The blades are connected to a drive shaft that turns an electric generator to produce electricity.

Offshore wind turbines are being used in a number of countries to harness the energy of the moving air over the oceans and convert it to electricity.

Offshore winds tend to flow at higher speeds than onshore winds, thus allowing turbines to produce more electricity. Undersea collection cables connect multiple turbines in the wind facility and transport the electricity from them to a transformer where the combined electricity is converted to a high voltage for transmission via undersea cables to a substation. There the electricity is connected to the onshore electricity grid.

Many offshore areas have ideal wind conditions for wind facilities. Denmark and the United Kingdom have installed large offshore wind facilities to take

advantage of consistent winds. Some of the famous Offshore-Wind farms are Thanet (300MW, UK) and Horns (209MW, Denmark).  Today, just more than 600 MW of offshore wind energy is installed worldwide, all in shallow waters (<30 meters) off the coasts of Europe. Proposed offshore wind projects through 2010 amount to more than 11,000 MW, with about 500 MW each in the United States and Canada, and the remainder in Europe and Asia.

Endangered marine life, Navigational interference, Potential alternation of natural environment, noise and visual impacts, Traffic control etc. are some of the exclusive environmental challenges that has been visualized since its implementation. Though its efficient and harmless productivity, its has been regarded as one among the best techniques of the Wind energy technology.

Now, we have certainly understood the emotional power of wind.

4-5-6-7D MOVIES

Imagine bursts of air shooting past your ears when the bows and arrows start flying in the movies, and maybe sometime in movies some mist sprinkles on your face when the character swan dives into the lake.

What if you feel in being as a part of film or the character itself rather being in your personal home theatre. If the former seems to be true, the excitement will be a limitless factor. And yes the multi-dimensional movies are those which can make it possible.

The 4D films or the 4-Dimensional movies are of the latest entertainment presentation system with a combination of 3D films and some exclusive physical effects which occurs in synchronization with the film. Wind, Vibration, Moving Seat, scent and smells, mist and rain, bubbles etc etc are some of the exclusive effects added to such technology. The added extra dimension is not that is added in the filming, its the added feature of the theatre itself. The technology was popularized by a South Korean company called CJ 4D Plex, which currently converts all the 3D theatre into the extra dimensional technological feature. Using additional hall effects such as smoke, rain, lightning, air bubbles and special smells (for example fireworks smell at the London Eye's Experience and gassy smells when the stinkbug sprays it at It's Tough to be a bug) is often regarded by many as 5D. However, since there is no standard for using these terms, each company uses its own terminology and it is often confusing. It is important to disregard the marketing slogans (4-5-6-7D) used by different companies and check what is exactly offered for both the visual and sensory experience.

Every production of genius must be the production of enthusiasm.

MISSION INVISIBLE, NOT IMPOSSIBLE

Whether you're a Harry Potter fan or a mere fourth-level mage in a game of "Dungeons and Dragons," you're probably familiar with the concept of an invisibility cloak. Slip this magical garment over your head and, in the eyes of all onlookers, you are simply VANISH !!!

Due to the outburst of science and cutting edge technology such innovation has become a matter of dream come true. Researchers have constructed an invisibility cloak capable of hiding a tiny object by altering the behavior of the light that hits it. This is the first invisibility cloak made out of sophisticated, artificial materials called metamaterials that work with the full spectrum of light visible to the human eye.

The cloak, which works for the full spectrum of visible light traveling at any angle, is made out of silicon nitride layered on top of silicon oxide with minute pores. The silicon nitride is etched with a special pattern of holes. Because of their carefully calculated size, these holes can alter the speed at which light travels through the layer that contains them. This allows the engineers to manipulate our ability to see things. What you see is actually not just the light; what you are seeing is how the light is interacting with its environment. The pattern of microscopic holes essentially reconstructs the reflected light as if the light never hit the object in the first place, fooling the eye into missing the object. The most important thing is that, the cloak must be larger than the object and to built such cloak for a larger object it take eventually a very long time. Hope in near by future we get a well equipped n highly efficient camouflage technology by the invisible cloak.

Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought.

THE GAME CHANGER

How practical are electric aircraft? Yeah I ain't joking this time at least.

After all, powering a car down the road is different than powering an airplane through the air, and the electric automobile is still struggling to find its niche. Aviation experts say that ultra-green aviation technology will take a good deal of time. The necessary technical advances are still speculative. On the other hand, they add, aerospace engineers can see the path to eventual success, if not the actual stepping stones along the way.

Several years ago, when the auto industry faced government pressure to minimize its environmental footprint by reducing fuel consumption and tailpipe emissions, manufacturers turned first to hybrid-electric and then battery-electric power-trains that now move Chevy Volts and Nissan Leafs. Today, confronted with substantially the same environmental mandates, the aviation industry has begun gearing up to use those same green power plants to propel aircraft.

THE ELECTRIC CAR IS SO YESTERDAY; ELECTRIC AIRPLANES ARE COMING.

Electric propulsion will be a Game-changer and transform aeronautics in the next 20 to 30 years. Electric-powered unmanned aerial vehicles first transitioning from military to civilian use, followed in time by much more environmentally responsible commercial transport planes. The changeover to fully electric propulsion will be assisted by the adoption of hybrid-electric drive trains. Hybrids, which can implemented more easily, provide a way to compensate for the high masses of batteries and so afford a way to improve the power-to-mass ratio of the engine. The development of electric aircraft not only depends on the speed at which battery technology improves, but also how fast electrical equipment, the motors get better. Electric motors would need efficiencies of around 95 percent, and the most important of all is, after such tremendous improvement in the technology the system should be affordable and durable with maximum security and safety.

(In photo - Boeing's SUGAR Volt (Subsonic Ultra Green Aircraft Research) twin-engine future concept airliner. The 737-size transport would be powered by hybrid propulsion system that would combine gas turbine and battery/electric motor technology )

Aeronautics was neither an industry nor a science. It was a miracle.

SOLAR ROADWAYS

We are using fossil fuels as the primary source of energy to run our Industrial Civilization. But we are paying a heavy price for using fossil fuels in the form of environmental damages.

Now, we know that fossil fuels and natural gases are not going to last forever. This will lead us into big problems. We can’t go back to life of the 18th century. We can’t shut down our industrial units and means of transport and communications. Many are worried about the impending situation and thinking of solutions.

We can counter the energy crisis by adopting an unique alternative method. We can construct Solar Roadways ! Yeah its true and possible. We can convert 50,000 miles of petroleum-based asphalt highways and byways into Solar Roadways ! Similar results can be achieved with the parking lots, airports, runways, malls, stadiums and driveways.

The project is the brain child of an US based electrical engineer Mr. Scott Brusaw who is also an elite voting member of NEMA and the co-founder of the Solar Roadways. With his impressive and encouraging ideology I believe that if the Indian Interstate Highway system can be exchanged with the system with a solar cell efficiency of 10 percent, it could power the whole country.

These Solar Road Panels will generate and restore energy for our homes and businesses. The added side effect will be a fifty percent cut in the greenhouse gases. I, envision about the interconnected and intelligent multiple Solar Road Panels. I predict a future where interstate highways, state routes, downtown streets, residential streets, or plain dirt or gravel country roads will be having Solar Road Panels catering to the energy needs of homes or business units. Solar Roadway will be an intelligent, self-healing, decentralized (secure) power grid.

The use of solar energy has not been opened up because the oil industry does not own the sun. :-)

HOW MANY DO YOU HAVE ?

Hey guys ! I ain't talking about your watch collection. I am talking about a watch which has built-in storage capacity.

You may recall from the James Bond movies, that Mr. 007 used to carry confidential data or information that is often used as intels for his missions, which lead him to be personified as the most talented gentlemen in the British MI6 agency. If you want to be a hero, just like 007, then I suggest you carry your files on this USB Memory watch. In addition to displaying the time, the watch helps to carry your valuable data with you all times, from MP3 files to your favorite images and many more other essentials. It has a simple Plug and play operation as that of a standard USB flash drives.

The USB Memory Watch has a built-in USB connector and can transfer files to and from most computer operating systems.  The USB connector is cleverly stored in the watch band and flips up for easy connecting. There is also a LED light that indicates the device status. Its extremely shock-proof and anti-static but not waterproof. The watch is surprisingly sleek and lightweight - it is not a bulky watch. The band is comfortable and very flexible. The built-in USB 2.0, has a data storage capacity of about 2GB or 4GB or 8GB.

Technology does not drive change, it enables change.

SMARTER ENOUGH SMARTPHONES

Leave your laptop at home.Today's smartphones are smarter enough than what you think so.

It’s hard to believe that today’s phones are just as powerful as desktop computers were less than a decade ago. Today's smartphones are capable of doing anything you might need your laptop for on bussiness trip or holiday, plus much more. Its not only that you stay in touch via email and surf Web without wires and dongles but can have an ultimate experience of 3D gaming and capture HD videos. So its time to save yourself from shoulder aches and leave the bulky laptop behind. Apart from the freedom to move around, smartphones add new dimensions to our interaction, through video cameras, environmental sensors, GPS location awareness, and always-on Internet connections. In fact, even if phones weren’t so powerful, the advent of always-available online “cloud” services means you can safely cut the cord and live entirely out of the phone in your pocket. For those occasional times when you need more grunt, many of today’s phones can be expanded via video outputs, plug-in keyboards, Bluetooth accessories or even laptop-like docks with full-sized keyboards and screens. For personal entertainment, most of these smartphones have screens in the 3.5–4-inch range, which is great for watching movies without being disturbed. Huge libraries of streaming audio and video are available online, and if that’s too much for your 3G connection, just load up your phone at home—you won’t find less than 8 GB of storage space today!

If you don't have an iPhone, well you don't have an iPhone. :-)

TOUCHY ! TOUCHY !

The big buzz words in technology today - tablets and Android, combine in this comparison.

Laptops and netbooks are handy portable devices that can handle a lot of your daily tasks. However, given their weight and bulky form factor, they aren’t ideal to lug around everywhere you go. As an alternative, touchscreen computing is already here and is taking over! Tablets have been all the rage lately. They combine touchscreens and a unique user interface, which makes using them a much simpler, quicker and fun experience. Thus, the traditional mice and keyboards are made redundant. Tablets are not just portable, but the recent tablet devices have been housing quite powerful components. Tablets have been running on processors with clock speeds around 1 GHz, around 1 GB RAM, and oodles of storage. The newest tablet devices also feature dual core processors. For all you know, they might even outperform those modest little netbooks. With the launch of the Apple iPad 2, Google’s Android Honeycomb platform, and mobile components like the Nvidia Tegra 2, tablets are here to stay.
A tablet is often mistaken to be a mere shiny or a useless gadget, but it can be used well for quick presentations, to watch movies, to catch up on the latest shows, or to sway to your favorite tunes. Browsing the Internet is a whole new experience on a tablet. With the full screen browser, the multi touch gestures, and the kinetic scrolling, no longer does browsing imply sitting for long hours in front of your PC. Then there’s the mobility factor. You don’t need to fire up your laptop or computer every time you want to look something up or catch up on the news. Innovative stands let you use tablets wherever and whenever you would need them, be it in the park, or on the dashboard of your car, showing you the way around town. They are even said to be great devices for learning, in the classroom and outside of it. Tablets have changed the face of e-books and magazines, making reading a more true to life experience, with pages you can actually touch and turn. Apps such as Google Voice, ooVoo and Skype have made VoIP on tablets far easier, and with most of the tablets featuring 3G and a secondary camera, they can be great devices for video calling and video conferencing.
While Apple’s iPad brought tablets into the limelight, there also exist tablets running Android, which are capable of doing just as much, or probably more. This is not only the end in the world on touch and smart computing still more gadgets are to be lauched in the nearby future.

The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible. :-)

As this is my first blog ever, I really don't have any good experience on writing. Even though a simple try with a sophisticated ideas is really not a bad practice rather a good one too. Anyways in this blog I, in person publicly want to share my interest and my level of knowledge on creative skills on technology and modern hi-fi gadgets used in various field by limitless techies.

Though it may seem to be boring for a quite number of readers but I promise you all reader that it would really make you feeling more interesting as you go through it with little keen interest of learning it.

At last my conclude sentence that I want to quote is that " TECHNOLOGY IS WHAT WE USE AND TECHNIQUE IS WHAT WE ARE BEING USED TO"

keep smiling and enjoying :-)
